Hemodialysis Center

Welcome to Phuket Provincial Hospitals Hemodialysis Center

What is Hemodialysis? Hemodialysis is a medical procedure and treatment which uses a special machine called a dialysis that filters waste products from the blood and leaves only the important elements in the body. Our hospital provides 14 specialized dialysis machines to help patients with chronic kidney conditions.

Healthy kidneys clean your blood by removing excess fluid, minerals, and wastes. They also make hormones that keep your bones strong and your blood healthy. When your kidneys fail, harmful wastes build up in your body, your blood pressure may rise, and your body may retain excess fluid and not make enough red blood cells. When this happens, you need treatment to replace the work of your failed kidneys.

"Your kidneys are important to us"

Anemia is common in people with kidney disease. Healthy kidneys produce a hormone called erythropoietin, or EPO, which stimulates the bone marrow to produce the proper number of red blood cells needed to carry oxygen to vital organs. Diseased kidneys, however, often do not make enough EPO so treatment is needed. This usually takes 4-5 hours. Luckily anemia can be treated. As a result, patients on dialysis are prescribed EPO while they are treated, and they may have the drug injected into the dialysis tubing or intravenously during dialysis.

How do your kidneys work?

Your kidneys are used to clean your blood. They remove soluble waste products, minerals’ and excess fluids from the blood, which are transferred to the bladder and then expelled from the body as urine. They maintain a stable balance of salts, ions, and water in the body. Your kidneys also help control your blood pressure, via an enzyme called Renin, which affects the amount of salts (minerals, including calcium and phosphates) in your blood.

PPH offers full hemodialysis care to provide care for patients with both chronic and acute kidney disease. Our environment is comfortable, clean and safe for patients and their families. With a capacity of 14 beds with a full range of amenities available, the Hemodialysis Center is Open Monday - Friday 07:00 - 17:00(5pm) and Saturday 7:00 to 14:00(2pm)
